2020. “The red bird”. Techniques: Screen printing ink: 7 passes. On 270 gram Arches vellum paper. 50/70 cm. Limited edition of 35 copies.
It was a great joy to be invited for my first ever screen printing by the Anagraphis studio (near Montpellier!)
Everything is done by hand, with love: preparation, handling, drying. No machines, just organization!
They are best placed to speak for themselves: “Anagraphis has always had a crush on comics, materials and objects. Here we like to sniff the smell of inks on the evening, resurrect decals, and release portfolios that look like vinyl boxes.
But Anagraphis has also learned to sublimate toner and to catalog “on-line” and will continue to plant astonishing sculptures on the corner of your street or to stick UFOs under the roof of your train stations. Because, deep down, what matters is to put art where you are, especially if you don’t expect it there: in a large stadium or in the dining room.”
Alas, I wanted to prepare my visual before even knowing their processes. I didn’t trust myself enough to create the visual “on site” and I prepared my pattern in advance… on the computer (the height of it)
It was my first, I learned a lot: especially about the screen printing technique. And I know how I would like to approach the next ones if I have other opportunities to do them again!
Huge thanks to them for the invitation and the time spent, the welcome and all that!
